Artist Information
In 2006 they performed live with Herbert Grönemeyer, presenting the official World Cup Anthem “Celebrate the day” at the opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup 2006 live broadcasted and seen by over 1.5 billion on TV.
Amadou & Mariam mainly represents an incredible love story of two blind Malians, who dedicated their lives to music. By collaborating with legendary Manu Chao they became one of the most exceptional success stories in world music history. Their music is always personal, often political and hypnotic.
Visitors of their concerts are well aware of the extraordinary stage performance this couple and their impressing band present. In 2006 a huge audience took advantage of the opportunity at festivals and in clubs (Chiemsee Reggae, London Barbican, Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, East Coast Blues Festival Australia, Paleo Festival Nyon, …) to see one of the most exceptional music projects live on stage. Amadou & Mariam even graced stages of big pop/rock-festivals such as Glastonbury (UK) which shows their enormous importance in today’s music. Their World Tour in 2006 included gigs in most of the big cities in the US, Australia and Europe leaving an impressed audience behind everywhere they went. They also toured with pop-sensation Scissor Sisters, performing at such renowned venues as O2 Arena London.
Seeing their award-winning album “Dimanche à Bamako” sell more than half a million copies in France alone, Amamdou & Mariam now hope to receive the same positive recognition for their newest long-player, which will be released in November 2008. “Welcome To Mali” was again produced by Marc-Antoine Moreau and Lauren Jais, who – together with Manu Chao – were co-producers of the critically acclaimed predecessor. Additionally, the first single “Sabali” is the result of a spectacular collaboration with Damon Albarn (Blur / Gorillaz), not to forget numerous guest appearances by excellent musicians like K’naan, Keziah Jones, ’M’, Toumani Diabate or Tiken Jah Fakoli.
Count on them to fascinate masses with their stunning performance again next year and to consolidate their position in the European market even more.
