Artist Information

Kitty Hoff is one of the biggest insider tips of the German chanson scene, standing out of the pack with her inventive mixture of Bossy Nova, Jazz, Pop and Swing.

She studied singing, acting and dancing in Vienna and Essen (Folkwang College) before moving to Berlin, where she later won the the “Federal Singing Contest Berlin” (for Chanson / Song) twice as well as a recording scholarship in 2005. In order to continuously improve her skills Kitty visited several master classes (e.g. Brecht-Diseuse Gisela May, Kurt-Weill-Fest Dessau) and during this time met four musicians who instantly connected with Kitty and her music and eventually became her backing-band ”Forêt Noire”. After a first few recordings with the guys, she drew the attention of the record label Virgin who spotted her talent and instantly offered her a deal that she could not refuse.

Her debut album “Rauschen” was released in 2005 and immediately stirred up the feuilletons: Celebrated as music able to shake off the dust of the mainly French occupied chanson genre, by combining fresh melodies with cheeky lyrics. She received the sponsorship awards “Young Poets” (2005, Hanns-Seidel-Stiftung), “List of best German-speaking songs” (2006) and a sponsorship by the prestigious Goethe-Institut (2006).
In February 2007 the follow-up album “Blick ins Tal” came out strongly underlining the obvious talents of “La Hoff”. The whole album through Kitty manages to masterly juggle with the German language, amusingly yet poetically at the same time, accompanied by a diversified mix of chanson, jazz and pop elements, as far as strange e-guitar-sounds and reggae influences.
Her success story continued in 2008, as the jury of the “Lale-Andersen-Award” unanimously voted her as the next laureate. Live the elegant, mysterious singer and her excellent band Forêt Noire expanded their activities and continued to excite audiences at clubs and festivals such as “KulturImZelt” Braunschweig, “Chansonfest Berlin”, “Deutsche Kulturtage” Riga (Latvia), “Herzgruen Festival” Berlin and “Köstritzer Spiegelzelt” in Weimar.

Kitty Hoff’s new album is released in april 2009 by legendary jazz-label “Blue Note Records”, making her the first female German artist signed to this record company. Her new album is typically easygoing, a mixture of glamorous pop, roaring blues, lyrical ballads and good-mood reagge-swing, as well as a charming German-French duet with the famous Chanson-star Coralie Clément (Paris).

She wins her exclusivity from her brightness combined with a touch of threatening mysticism. Kitty Hoff is elegant and captivating, her performance expressive and stunning and her brilliant band knows how to set the lyrics of its bandleader perfectly in scene. Sparkling Jazztunes, airy Bossa Nova, dazzling pop and alluring Chanson- music for your heart, head and legs.
