Since 1997, Jarabe de Palo have been Spain’s no. 1 Latin-Rock band, as the title track of their first album La Flaca was an instant hit and millions of copies were sold worldwide.
They also became stars in Chile, Argentina and Mexico; even in the USA and in Italy they were awarded with multiple-Platinum status. Besides high sales figures they received prizes like the Spanish Music Award, the Ondas Award, Grammy nominations (e.g. Best Rock Album) and cooperated with international stars such as Chrissie Hynde, Ketama, Chambao or Celia Cruz.
Their 2007 released Latin Grammy nominated album Adelantando raises itself beyond the superficial onto a higher musical plane with tunes that could get a skeleton moving, it rocks shamelessly to communicate its writers’ restlessness. At the end of the day, this is Jarabe de Palo’s and frontman Pau Dones’ main achievement: a rock album with depth; a mature album but a direct one.
From 2005 to 2008 the band played more than 250 gigs all over the world. Besides all of Western Europe, their journey took them to the US, Mexico and South America. In summer 2008 Jarabe de Palo had a successful festival tour throughout Europe incl. Austria and France and performed at important summer festivals such as the International Zeltmusikfestival in Freiburg, Kultursommer Oldenburg, Tropicana Festival Bregenz or Latino Roc Festival in Cauterets/France. With the release of their new album Reciclando in 2009 a new club-tour followed with celebrated concerts at prestigious venues such as Gloria Theater Cologne, Muffathalle Munich, Kesselhaus Berlin, Bierhüble Bern.
Besides that, Jarabe de Palo played at the UEFA EURO 2008 in Vienna – a real high-class project! The band performed with the well-proven spanish temperament but dressed in a classical look and performing with a comedy flair. After a very successful run of shows in Spain, Jarabe De Palo will bring this musical Varieté to European theatres in Autumn 2010. Besides the new show, Jarabe de Palo will be presenting the songs of their current album Reciclando with new, suprising arrangements of their greatest hits such as La Flaca, Bonito, Depende or Dejame Vivir.
