Artist Information
Although only 27 years old the Danish vocalist Malene Mortensen sings with stirring intensity. At 19 she wins the Danish Eurovision Song Contest but her rich voice and mature phrasing seem born to caress classic jazz songs.
Her career started with the release of her debut album “Paradise” (2003, Universal Records) which was produced by the internationally renowned pianist Niels Lan Doky.
In the summer of 2004 Malene’s new label, Stunt Records pairs her with 3 exceptional talents, one of them pianist Kasper Villaume. He is also the musical producer on this album. The rest of the band is made up by bassist Avishai Cohen, a brilliant musician who joined Chick Corea’s New Trio already at a young age, and drummer Morten Lund. “Date With A Dream” (spring 2005) becomes an enchanting and integrated album.
Malene Mortensen’s charm, musical talent, intelligence and personality ooze from every track. Whatever stage she plays on her corresponding tour she receives great feedback, e.g. at the Jazz Festival in Villach (Austria) or the Enjoy Jazz Festival in Ludwigshafen.
Her current album “Malene”, which she presented live e.g. in the Widder Bar/Zurich, Fabrik/Hamburg and at the Copenhagen Jazz Festival in the Quasimodo/Berlin, was released in spring 2007.
In the following months Malene thrilled her audience with a strong stage presence and a breathtaking live band, e.g. at the Palatia Jazz Festival, the Jazz & Bluestage Schwerin/Lübeck and the Nikolaisaal Potsdam. To conclude this busy year she released her Christmas album called “…To all of you”.
In 2008, she continues her run, performing at the Ingolstädter Jazztagen and Jazz & Einkauf in Heilbronn, enchanting grateful audiences once again.
Her fifth solo album “ Agony & Ecstasy” was released on September 23th 2009. This album is very special because all the songs are written by Malene herself, and some songs co-written with the musicians in her band. The genre of the music is a fusion between pop, rock and jazz.
