NEW ALBUM IN 2010!
Equipped with a sensational charisma on stage Souad Massi has become one of the highest selling artists in world pop. Her songs are mainly autobiographic and influenced by a variety of different musical styles: She creates a cosmopolitan mix by combining Arabic and African music with occidental sounds, mingling Tuareg- and Chaabi-rhythms, folk, flamenco, Afro-Beats and Capeverdean Morna. Souad is a great poet, she sings in Arabic, French but also Kabylic language.
Following the release of her first album “Raoui“ (“The story-teller”) Souad Massi was nominated for “Best Female Newcomer” at the BBC’s “Awards for World Music“. Extensive touring led her to festivals such as WOMAD or WOMEX, where she began to make a name for herself internationally.
On the second album “deb“ (“With a broken heart”) she again shows a wide musical range. Based on her Algerian roots the influences comprise of Andalusian flamenco-music to Pakistani tablas to cosmopolitan folk-rock. Her songs are an irresistible mixture of wonderful melodies, lyrics, arrangements and styles, and her voice carries nuances of self-confidence and fragility throughout the whole dynamic album.
Souad Massi’s charisma and her excellent backup band immediately thrill everyone visiting her concerts. Presenting her last album “Mesk Elil” (2006), which was awarded with the French music Award “Les Victoires de la musique 2006”, the BBC Awards and the “German Record Critics’ Award” she played numerous high class concerts in Europe during the last years.
Her new album will be released all over Europe in summer 2010.
