Artist Information
The young Australien Singer / Songwriter wrote her first original songs at the young age of only six - inspired by idols such as Simon & Garfunkel or Carly Simon. Her initial breakthrough came in 2004 after moving from from Sidney to Berlin.
Kat Frankie originally planned to only take a creative pause and stay in the German capital for one year. The divers, arty and lively atmosphere however inspired her to take the final step and actually make the long lived passion for music her profession. This decision was instantly crowned with success. Her first Berlin written song “The Wrong side of Midnight” was awarded with the Jaxtor-Award for young Australien songwriters. As one of the leading representatives of Neo-Folk she was portrayed for the Film “BerlinSong” which premiered at the 57. Berlinale and was released on DVD in September 2009.
With her crystal clear voice, her dynamic guitar-play and her clever song - writing full of drama and passion Kat Frankie can now look at a big and constantly growing fan base. Her debut album „Pocketknife“ was released early 2008 and earned her enthusiastic critics. The songs tell of seduction, of betrayal and confession of ambition, mediocrity and violence. The sounds range from the 60s mellotron to the cinematic cello, from slow winter-pop to manic electric guitar.
Live Kat Frankie and her 5-piece band enchant their audience with their enormous musical expressiveness comparable to exceptional artists such as PJ Harvey or Fiona Apple. The essence of their performances are always the great songs as well as “her impressive voice, which she uses sometimes soft like a purring cat and then again loud and angrily screaming but always accurate. On the international stages the restless artists convinced on renowned festivals such as Mother Festival (Israel), Sunset Festival (Australien), Rock Carnaza International (Chile) and of course German festivals such as Summerize Festival and Fusion Festival. With the release of her new album in March 2010 Kat Frankie will be available for club and festival gigs in Europe.
