"Judging by the volume of whoops that filled the auditorium at the Royal Albert Hall last night it’s surprising the roof didn’t blow off. A joyful celebration of the incredible achievements the composer and musician has made over the last two decades." - Asianculturevulture
It is sensational to be able to bring this exceptional artist to German stages!
Simply classifying the British-Indian multi-instrumentalist under world music would not be enough for one of the "most versatile and creative minds in the music industry" (Deutschlandfunk Kultur). There is no music genre that he has not already incorporated into his masterful compositions.
SAWHNEY's music is complex, detailed and sometimes experimental. The common thread of his mixture of Indian elements, flamenco, hip hop, drum n bass, jazz, classical, rock and electronic music lies in the free spirit, the spirit of adventure and intellectual curiosity. His songs are very progressive and very diverse.
"it's another reminder of just how gifted Sawhney is" - The Indipendent
Born and raised in the National Front stronghold in Rochester, Kent, UK, SAWHNEY has always waged his own war against racism and bigotry by always speaking out loudly about his pride in his South Asian heritage.
After first musical projects like orchestras, punk rock and funk bands and jazz quartets, the multi-talent then belonged to the avant-garde of the then emerging "Asian Underground" in the mid 90s, together with greats like TALVIN SINGH.
SAWHNEY's ability to cross and break through cultural boundaries brought him great recognition in both classical and pop culture circles.
Beyond Skin Revisited is not only an unmitigated success, but also a reminder of the power of music." - Stack Magazine
