Artist information

Amparanoia is the figurehead of Mestizo music, a radical mixture of Flamenco, Rumba, Reggae, Ska, Hip Hop and Balkan Polka with a punk attitude. Together with Manu Chao, they are among the most important founders of this movement and their first album "El Poder de Machín", released in 1997, was groundbreaking for this. On "El Poder de Machín" there is also a song that became a hymn in a version of Manu Chao on "Clandestino": "Welcome to Tijuana"...

El Coro de Mi Gente", is the title of the current album by Amparanoia, in celebration of the 20th anniversary of "El Poder de Machín". Amparo Sánchez, the front figure & icon of Amparanoia, created a list of songs from the previous Amparanoia albums and asked friends to re-record one song each, with her as special guest. Among the musicians who contributed their versions are Joan Garriga, Manu Chao, DePedro, La Pegatina, Chambao, Sergent Garcia, Fito y Fitipaldis, Marinah, Calexico and a few more.

In the years 2018 and 2019 Amparanoia toured intensively through all European countries. Furthermore, performances at all important world music festivals and venues such as WOMAD, Tempo Latino, Pole Pole, Bout du Monde, Couleur Café, Savoy Theatre Helsinki, Ancienne Belgique followed.

As part of their continuing great comeback, Amparanoia continue to stand for an authentic Mestizo sound with the characteristic and incomparable voice of the charismatic Amparo Sánchez.
